Congratulations to Kelvin Hall School - Eco Schools Green Flag Award #2 with Merit

Congratulations to Kelvin Hall School on gaining their Eco Schools Green Flag with Merit.

This is what the Eco Schools Assessors had to say

"Congratulations!!!

Fantastic work Mr Grant & Students!

We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at Kelvin Hall School have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

We reviewed your application and noted the following:

It's sounds like your Eco-Committee members have a very organised approach to their Eco-Schools work, and it’s great to read that they use the app and their planners to record their achievements and project manage. The involvement and interest of your Deputy Headteacher is encouraging. It sends a clear message to your Eco-Committee that their work is vital and valued, and this is very empowering for young people.

It's brilliant to read that the Environmental Review has helped to identify areas for future action and improvement, as well as highlighting the great work you had already done to promote biodiversity. Seeking input from other school stakeholders, such as your Headteacher and Caretaker, demonstrates an inclusive and collaborative approach. Well done!

Your choice of Action Plan projects has been informed by identifying areas with the greatest potential for impact and improvement, such as litter-picks to clean up your school grounds. It’s a strong approach to work on things that will produce visible impact and change, and a great example of critical thinking. Environmentalism has clearly become an embedded part of your curriculum and is being used to enrich learning in your school, engaging your young people in a broad range of global environmental issues, such as ecosystems and plastic pollution.

We were particularly impressed by your spiral curriculum, which demonstrates your commitment to a whole-school approach. It's wonderful to read that you are liaising with other local schools and sharing ideas on eco-friendly practices at home. The quote from your pupil’s parent is testament to the positive impact of this and that how your young people feel empowered to make a difference beyond the school gates. This is a great start to inviting collaboration, and we look forward to hearing how you continue to build on this next year through partnership with other local organisations and initiatives.

Your Eco-Code has been thoughtfully conceived and is an accurate reflection of the environmental values and ethos that your Eco-Committee has created – well done to all involved! We have really enjoyed reading through your application, and we hope you take great pride in the inclusivity of your Eco-Schools work and the many positive impacts of this for both the environment and your pupils. Congratulations on earning an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit!
