Kelvin Hall retains the Thrive Spelling Bee Trophy

In another hotly contested and close final, the 'Kelvin Spelvins' team from Kelvin Hall School won the third Thrive Spelling Bee competition. Sponsored by Gateway Heyworth Networks Ltd, the three other finalists were Newland Spelling Sisterhood (Newland School for Girls), Oldfleet Letter Legends (Oldfleet Primary School) and Stepbees (Stepney Primary School). The competition is open to every child in years 6 & 7 from across the seven primary and three secondary schools in our trust. Students compete in Round 1 for a place on their school team. We then have a primary school semi-final and a secondary school semi-final. Two teams from each of these go through to the final, which takes place in the Basil Reckitt Lecture Theatre at Hull University. The winning team receives gold medals and the prestigious trophy. All other finalists receive a silver medal. Jane Nolan, our CEO, and Claire Wood from the Members Board presented the prizes. As always, we are amazed by the sheer brilliance of our superstar student spellers. Our profound thanks go to Chris Heyworth for his continued sponsorship of this event and for the staff at Hull University for being brilliant hosts.
